Expanding What’s Possible with Acoustical Focus

Wave Sciences has just released a significant update to Acoustical Focus that expands what users can do with the technology.

Most notably, the new Align & Combine capability lets users time-align separate recordings captured in the same acoustic space and combine them to create an ad hoc microphone array after the fact.

Think video camera audio, a smartphone or laptop, and other recorders capturing the same event from different locations. Those independent recordings can now potentially be combined, giving GLIMPSE multiple observations of the acoustic scene from which to refocus on an acoustic signal.

The release also adds mono support, NMLS and ASI noise reduction, automated Adapt Rate, STOI scoring, broader recorder and array support, and significant improvements to GLIMPSE processing speed.

We have also introduced a lower-channel-count configuration at a lower price point, while our Docker release makes demonstrations and evaluations considerably simpler.

The idea behind GLIMPSE is simple: sometimes the information needed to hear a sound is already present in the acoustic scene. The challenge is finding a way to focus on it.
