FOA Recorder is an iPhone app, made by Wave Sciences, LLC, for recording spatial audio and uploading it to a recording server. This policy explains what the app records, where that data goes, and what control you have over it.
- The app records audio, plus location and motion data, while you are recording.
- Recordings go only to the recording server you pair the phone with. The organization that runs that server is usually your employer or organization, not us.
- The app has no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs. We do not sell or share your data for marketing purposes.
While a recording is in progress, the app saves:
- Audio from the iPhone's built-in microphones.
- Location: a GPS track of where the recording was made and how the phone moved, including while the screen is locked. Location is optional. If you don't allow it, recordings are made without it.
- Motion and environment data: the phone's orientation, movement and air pressure, used to line the spatial audio up with the real world.
- Recording details that you or the app add: start time, length, any labels you choose, and recording settings.
- Device details: the phone's model, iOS version and the app's version.
When you pair the phone with a server, the app also sends the phone’s name—the name set in iOS Settings, which may include your name—and its model, so you can recognize the phone in the server’s list of devices. The server gives the phone an access token, which the app stores in the iPhone’s Keychain.The app is not designed to collect contacts, photos, advertising identifiers, or browsing history, or to use hardware device identifiers.
Recordings are stored on your iPhone and uploaded to the server you paired with. The app is designed to send recordings and associated data to that server, rather than to advertising or analytics services. Wave Sciences receives recordings only if you pair the app with a server that we operate.The server is run by whichever organization gave you the pairing code. That organization decides who can access recordings, how long they are kept, and how they are used. Its own privacy policy applies to data on its server.If you pair with a server that Wave Sciences operates, we use your recordings only to provide the service to you or your organization. We retain them only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide that service or meet applicable legal obligations. Service providers supporting our hosting and operation of the service may process data on our behalf, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection obligations. We may also disclose data where required by law.The app is designed to transfer data between the phone and the server over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Permissions: you can manage microphone, location, and motion permissions in iOS Settings. The app needs microphone access to record audio.
- Deleting recordings: you can delete recordings stored on the phone through the app. Server recordings may be deleted through the server’s website, where that feature is available, or by contacting the organization that operates it.
- Unpairing: unpairing the phone through the app’s Settings is intended to stop further uploads and remove its authorization to access that server.
- Removing the app: deleting the app generally removes recordings and settings stored within the app on the phone. Copies may remain in device backups, depending on your backup settings.
To revoke consent or request deletion of your data, email admin@wavesciences.com. If another organization operates your recording server, we may need to direct you to that organization to complete your request. Deletion may be subject to applicable legal retention requirements.
FOA Recorder is a professional field-recording tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
